Launch into Journalism
An e-portfolio website that seeks to explore the varying projects of an aspiring journalist, Adeen Kennedy
What do I value?
I value truth, honesty, equality for everybody, regardless of their gender, race, culture, ethnicity, socio-economic status, and sexuality, diversity, empathy, and fairness. With these values in mind, I seek to implement them in my work, as a journalist.
What is the purpose of this blog?
For ENC 4379-Writing Capstone course, this e-portfolio website is to showcase my skills in content creation, editing, research AP writing skills, news script writing, case studies, and audio/podcasting. There will be various projects that I have completed in my academic career that exemplifies them.
What are my career aspirations?
I aspire to become a news anchor for a news station. First, I want to intern at a newspaper or magazine to learn about how print journalism operates. I would like to start off writing news articles about local issues for a publication like the Orlando Sentinel. Then, I would like to branch out to broadcast journalism by interning at a news station and applying to jobs in that arena. My goal is become a news anchor that reports on controversial issues, such as gun control, natural disasters like hurricanes, teaching African American history in schools, and many more. My career path is not only to serve myself, but serve the needs and interests of my community.
“If a man is not faithful to his own individuality, he cannot be loyal to anything.”
Claude McKay
Author and poet from the 1920s Harlem Renaissance
The reason why I chose this quote is to emphasize the fact that writing allows for people to be innovative and creative. This quote inspires me to become a more well-rounded and multi-faceted writer. Also, Claude McKay is my favorite poet and author from the Harlem Renaissance.
“A writer’s life and work are not a gift to mankind; they are its necessity.”
— Toni Morrison
